Welcome to the memorial page for

Annie Pearl Flowers

April 24, 2016

ANNIE PEARL FLOWERS (nee Robinson), was born on August 12, 1925 to Mr. & Mrs. Linous (Louise) Robinson.  She was then raised by her maternal grandparents, Robert Cargill and Elizabeth “Lizzie" Turner Cargill, in Milstead, Alabama.  In her early years Annie (affectionately known by her middle name, Pearl) attended Tuskegee public schools.

In 1940, the entire Cargill family relocated to Milan, Michigan where Pearl attended Nursing School.  On January 18, 1947 she experienced the birth of her only child; Jerome Robinson, who preceded her in death on February 20, 1989.

In 1951, Pearl and some friends learned of the prosperity of Buffalo, NY and all left Michigan and relocated.  Sometime after relocating, she met and married Mr. Theodore Flowers.  They later divorced.  Pearl went on to attend the Lillian Dora School of Beauty Culture and graduated on May 1, 1964.  She also studied for and received her NYS license to practice hairdressing and cosmetology.  She would later use her skills to enhance the beauty of her friends.  Doing hair was what she loved to do but, she also held a full time job as an Assembler for Markel Electric. She finished her career in 1985 when the company moved to Mexico.

In 1981, Pearl received legal guardianship of her 7-year-old grandson, Jerome La Roy Robinson “Romey”.  Romey was her greatest joy.  If you ever had a conversation with Pearl, she would be sure to tell you about her Romey.   Besides her love for her grandson, she also loved shopping and traveling.  Her many hats and suits were well known at Emmanuel Temple (later named, The Greater Emmanuel Temple Apostolic Church) where she was a faithful member since moving to Buffalo in the early 1950’s, under the pastorate of Bishop William J. Crossley and Bishop Robert J. Deas.

At Greater Emmanuel Temple, Pearl was an active member of The Radio Choir, The Consecrated choir, the Praise and Worship choir, the Pastor’s Gospel Chorus, the Mass choir, and the Usher Board.  In her later years she continued her love for singing with the Moot Center senior choir.

Left to cherish loving memories of Annie Pearl Flowers is her beloved grandson Jerome (Catherine) Robinson, her two grandchildren; Eva and Evan Robinson, and a host of extended family and friends who loved her dearly.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation all prayers and expressions of sympathy shown to us at this time.  We have been strengthened by the fact that our grandmother’s labors of love, in Christian witness, have been known by others.  May God richly bless you.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, May 3, 2016, 12 noon at Brian K. Lewis Funeral Home, 2528 Bailey Ave. Funeral to follow at 1pm.

His smiling way and pleasant face
Are a pleasure to recall,
He had a kindly word for each
And died beloved by all.
Some day we hope to meet him,
Some day, we know not when,
To clasp his hand in the better land,
Never to part again
