Welcome to the memorial page for

Clonia M Hinton

January 14, 2016

CLONIA M. JOHNSON-HINTON was born December 26, 1933 to Jessie and Hattie Johnson in Mobile, Alabama.  Clonia peacefully passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Clonia graduated from Central High School in Mobile, Alabama in 1951.  In 1954, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Prentis E. Hinton.  In 1959, the Hinton Family relocated to Buffalo, New York, where she raised their five sons.  Upon moving to Buffalo, she worked for Birds Eye Food.  She became gainfully employed as a Supervisor at SUNY at Buffalo, retiring after 11 years of service.

Clonia accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mount Olive #3 Baptist Church in Mobile, Al.  She was a spirited woman, with a loving spirit and a great sense of humor, who could often be found sitting on her porch in the summer speaking with neighbors and friends, reading a paper, or just observing the goings-on in the neighborhood. She was a witty, energetic, and outgoing individual, and an avid card player.

Clonia was a beacon of light in our lives. Her passing does not diminish that light. In fact, in our memories are the experiences we’ve shared and the time we have had with her, that beacon shines brighter than ever.

Preceding Clonia in death were her parents, Jessie and Hattie Johnson; son, Michael J. Hinton; grandson, Rashad Patton; sister, Mary Gardner; brother, Larry Johnson; and a devoted nephew, Willie Singleton.

She leaves to cherish her memory four sons: Roderick M. Hinton, Bryan D. Hinton, Anthony K. (Elizabeth) Hinton, and Gregory A. Hinton; two brothers, Nathaniel (Doris) Johnson and Charlie (Nia) Johnson; four sisters,  Jessie (William) Simmons, Ruby (Ted) Anderson, Dorothy Edwards, and Ruth (Willie) Montgomery; nine grandchildren, Prentis (Darlene) Hinton, Bryan A. Hinton, Nicole Hinton, Michael K. Hinton, LaToya Hinton, Nia Mason-Hinton, Jimmie Mason-Hinton, Anthony K. Hinton, Jr. and Nakia Mason-Hinton; a devoted best friend and sister of 54 years, Florence Brown and a host of nephews, nieces, great-grand-children, and great-great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Friday, January 22, 2016, 10am at True Bethel Baptist Church, 907 E. Ferry St.  Funeral to follow at 11am.   Interment at St. Matthew's Cemetery- W. Seneca.
