Eliza Mae Bridgers

On Saturday, December 30, 2017 God in his infinite wisdom called from labor our dear mother ELIZA MAE BRIDGERS home. 

Eliza was born February 6, 1933 in Lee County, South Carolina to the late Tolen and Thelma Lucas.  Eliza was a product of the Lee County Pubic School System where she received her High School Diploma.  After completion of high school she then relocated with her family to St. Paul, North Carolina.

While residing in St. Paul she joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Rev. John L. McKoy, of which four children were born from this union.

In 1954 Eliza relocated to Buffalo, NY where she studied and received her Nurses Assistant  Certificate.  She was employed in the health care system for several years.  She then met the late John Whitis and two children were born from this union.

On June 25, 1974 Eliza was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Walter Bridgers, they were married for 35 years.

In the year of 1988 Eliza joined the Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Boyd, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior.

Eliza leaves to cherish her loving memories 3 surviving children, Thomas (Debra) McKoy, Elizabeth McKoy (dear friend JEsse) and Donald Whitis (dear friend Amber).  There were 3 sons who preceded her in transition, Willie McKoy, James McKoy and Kenneth Whitis.

She also leaves to cherish her memories 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; a sister Helen Eastland of Winston Salem, NC; 2 brothers Edward (Maxine) Lucas of Pensacola, FL and Robert (Otis) Lucas of Winston-Salem, NC; 2 brothers and 2 sisters who preceded her Wilburt Lucas, James Lucus, Mary Harold and Bonnie Lucas; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; as well as 2 Special Health Aids Jasmine Harris and Pety.

 

Family will receive friends 12 noon during the memorial service on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Brian K. Lewis Funeral Home, 2528 Bailey Ave., Buffalo, New York 14215.
