GERTRUDE DARBY, transitioned from this life to the next on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the beautiful age of 73, in Buffalo, New York.

On April 1, 1944, "Pookie," as she was affectionately known, was born to the late Henry Sr. and Gladys (nee Shaw) Darby in Buffalo, NY.

Pookie attended St. Mary's Catholic School during her elementary years and later transferred to Fosdick Masten Girls Vocational School, where she used her skills in her trade of cooking.

Pookie confessed her life to Jesus at the tender age of six, and was a member of St. Mary's Church until their closing. She later attended St. Martin de Porres for her growth and wisdom in the Lord.

Pookie was employed at Markiey Potatoes Factory for 10+ years, sorting and bagging potatoes to be sold at area grocery stores. She later worked for many years and retired from Dr. George Sheen as a Private Duty Aide.

Poookie's hobbies including bowling and cooking. Pookie was a very down to earth person and never bit her tongue. She was known as someone who said what she meant, and meant what she said.

Pookie is preceded in death by her siblings, Jean Darby, George Darby, Henry Darby, Jr. and Shirley Darby.

She leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Karen (William) Miller; one brother, Michael Darby, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

Family will receive friends Thursday, September 7, 2017, 11am at Brian K. Lewis Funeral Home, 2528 Bailey Ave. Funeral will follow at 12 noon. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
