Welcome to the memorial page for

Inez M. Buckner Meadows

August 24, 2017

INEZ M BUCKER MEADOWS, affectionately known as “Bucket,” was born June 8, 1911 to the late John and Babe Johnson in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Inez was educated in the Buffalo Public School system and graduated from Fosdick Masten Girls Vocational High School. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served on the Usher Board.  Her faithfulness to God was displayed by her willingness to give, becoming a Lifetime Donor, serving and worshipping for 75 years.

Inez was employed as a waitress at Dan Montgomery’s, Hotel and Supper Club, on Exchange Street; and as a waitress and barmaid at Ann Montgomery’s, The Little Harlem Hotel and Nightclub, on Michigan Avenue, both located in Buffalo, NY. She enjoyed her work and reluctantly decided to retire following 17 years working as a barmaid at Club Sari on E. Ferry Street in Buffalo, NY.

Inez’s full-time commitment was to her family, with whom her legacy of good family values will continue on. She cared, and loved, and showed kindness to everyone. Inez truly exemplified the meaning of the commandment, “Love thy neighbor” as she extended the offering plate to not only her family, but to anyone in need.

Inez was an avid bowler and would travel all over the country with her bowling league. She also loved to cook, most memorably, her homemade apple pie (from scratch). She put her love into preparing a meal for her family. She would clean chitterlings and greens until you could see through them!

In the early morning of Thursday, August 24, 2017, at age 106, Inez received the greatest grace of eternal peace and was called home from this life into the open arms of the Creator.

Inez is preceded in death by her husband, Grover Meadows; one daughter, Neota Buckner; stepson, Adrian “Buddy” Buckner; and one sister, Isabell (Johnson) Scott.

She leaves her precious memories with her beloved son, Carl (Masako) Buckner; granddaughters, Neota D. Jones and Adrianne Musu (Jackie) Davis of New Jersey; great-grandchildren, Charles (Alesia) Jones of California and Raven Davis of New Jersey; great-great grandchildren, Paris, Dalis, and Londynn Jones of California; and a host of other loving family and friends.
