Alene R. Lewis

ALENE R. LEWIS, daughter of the late Virgil Lee and Gladys Logan Robinson was born on August 9, 1930. In Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Alene was a 1947 graduate of Carver High School in Spartanburg, South Carolina and Hampton Training School for Nurses, operated by Dixion Hospital in Hampton, Virginia.

She was married to Roger Lewis Jr. in Petersburg, Virginia.  To this union two children (twin) were born; Carlton and Carolyn.

In 1957, Alene and her family moved to Buffalo, New York.  After moving to Buffalo, her career as a Registered Nurse spanned over 50 years.  Alene worked in many of the area hospitals and retired from Erie County Nursing Home.

Alene was a very active member of Agape African Methodist Episcopal Church before her illness.  She served on many Boards of Stewards, Stewardness, Trustee, Lay Organization and Annie W. Hargrave Missionary Society.  One of her favorite hymns was, "I Come to the Garden Alone."

After retiring Alene focused on the things she loved to do.  She was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing and a member of the Glenwood Block Club.

Alene's siblings preceded her in death.  Two sisters:  Juanita Webster, Edna Fingers, Three brothers:  Lee A. Robinson and Virgil Lee Jr.

Alene went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2017.  She leaves to cherish her memory two loving children:  Carlton R. Lewis of Buffalo, NY and Carolyn L. Robinson of South Chesterfield, Virginia.  Three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were supportive of her health and illness; Mildred Davis, Essie Jackson and the late Esther Clark.

Family will receive friends Wednesday 10 am at Agape A.M.E Church, 224 Northland Ave., Buffalo, NY 14208.  Funeral to follow at 11:00 am.

Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
