Bettye Hutcherson Obituary

BETTYE J. HUTCHERSON was born on July 1, 1931 to the late Adrewl and Ruth (Compton) Malone in Buffalo, New York. On August 21, 2018, Sister Hutcherson transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home.

Bettye attended Public School #12 and graduated from Fosdick Masten High School.  Following high school, she attended Trott Vocational School, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Bettye was gainfully employed at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, retiring after 32 years  of employment.

Bettye accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1954 under the pastorate of the late Rev. Harry J. White, Sr; Bettye was a faithful member for over 60 years.  Within her church home, Bettye has served in various ministries: she sang in the choir; worked with the after school program; was an active member of the Sister Sharing Missionary Unit; served on the Stewardess Board; worked with the Credit Union; and was a member of the Solidarity Club. In 2010, she was honored by Bethel AME Church for her many years of service as a Stewardess.

In 1974, Bettye married the late Clarence R. Hutcherson, II and became the mother to Lisa and Clarence, III.

Bettye’s hobbies included attending YMCA Senior Exercise Program, and watching NBA basketball games. She was an avid collector of VHS and DVD movies. Bettye  traveled and enjoyed playing Solitaire on her computer up until her health failed.

Bettye will be remembered for her sense of humor, warm smile, and her love for family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa A. (Carleanos) Carroll; one son, Clarence R. Hutcherson III; one brother, Richard Malone; three sisters, Patricia (Michael) Stokes, Diane Malone and Janice (Bobby) Higgs; a dear cousin, Edith Barcliftt; a devoted friend and companion for over 17 years, William Heard; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 28, 2018, 11am at Bethel AME, 1525 Michigan Ave. Funeral to follow at 12 noon. Interment held at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
