Christopher Alston Obituary

CHRISTOPHER MARK ALSTON was born on July 22, 1967 in Buffalo, New York to Mel and Claire Alston; He was the first of four children. Christopher joined Mount Zion Church of God- Holiness at an early age under the leadership of Elder Otis Stephens.

Christopher started his early education at Corner House Nursery School in Williamsville, New York. Christopher then enrolled in the College Learning Laboratory until he graduated in 1981. Christopher then went on to McKinley High School and graduated in 1985. While in high school, Christopher was an active teammate on the football team. Christopher also played the saxophone in the All High City Band.  Christopher attended Erie Community College and the University at Buffalo.

Christopher grew up at Mount Zion Church of God-Holiness and was active in various church activities including the Sunshine Band, Young Men’s Christian League, Junior Choir, and the Youth Auxiliary.

In 1994 Christopher relocated to Charlotte, NC where he attended Mount Zion Church of God-Holiness. Christopher served in many capacities including on the usher board and as a deacon.

Christopher worked in many fields including, Converse as a production worker, security  officer at Charlotte Country Day School. Christopher began his own cleaning business where he serviced many small businesses including his church, Mount Zion Church of God-Holiness. Most recently, Christopher was employed with Wells Fargo.

Christopher enjoyed working with youth from a very early age. Because of his love for children, he became godfather of many. Christopher always displayed a humble and meek spirit and a special love for God. You could always find Christopher with a smile on his face.

Christopher loved being a father to his two sons; he took the role very seriously providing love and nurturing. Christopher instilled God’s love in them and a love for God’s house and people. He made sure they were actively involved in all youth activities. A holy foundation was set.

Christopher quietly submitted to the will of his Father on March 17, 2018. Christopher had served his purpose on earth as God had required him to do.

Christopher leaves to cherish his memory, two loving sons: Johnathan Elijah Alston and William Matthew Alston of Charlotte, NC; His loving and devoted parents: Elder Mel Alston and Sister Claire B. Alston of Buffalo New York; one brother: Timothy E. Alston of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters: Melissa Alston Anderson (Leon) of Charlotte, NC, and Jennifer L. Alston of Buffalo, New York; a devoted aunt; Lorene Patterson of Charlotte, NC; one nephew: Alexander C. Anderson of Charlotte, NC; two nieces: Jada M. Alston of Buffalo, New York and Camryn Anderson of Charlotte, NC; Grandmother: Mamie L. Cunningham of Lancaster, SC and stepson: Anthone Alsobrooks of Charlotte, NC;  Godmother: Annie Lewis of Buffalo, New York.; 5 Godchildren,  and a host of aunts, uncles cousins and friends both near and far. Christopher was looking forward to meeting his great-niece expected to be born in April 2018. Christopher was preceded in death by his grandmother, Inez P. Alston and his grandfathers: Leondras Alston and Gonza Lee Wilson.

Services will be held Friday, March 23, 2018, 11am at Mt. Zion Church of God-Holiness, 4600 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28215. Funeral will follow at 12 noon.
