Dorothy J Richardson-Smith

DOROTHY J. RICHARDSON-SMITH,  was born December 12, 1939 in Evergreen, Alabama to the late Mattie and Claxton Roscoe Richardson. She attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, FL.

Dorothy left Pensacola, FL and moved to Buffalo, NY, where she found gainful employment with Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo as a Nurse's Aide. There she retired after 40 years of grateful service.

She confessed her life to Christ and joined Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Guy J. Graves. She later joined the Love Alive Full Gospel Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Jeffrey B. Bowens. 

Dorothy enjoyed cooking, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family. She also loved going out on lunch and dinner dates with her sister Cheryle.

Dorothy departed this life peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2018.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Celestine Harris and Cheryle Adams; two Godsons, Michael Jr and Gus, III; a special nephew, Cedric L. Adams, whom she loved and helped raise as if he were her own son; a dear great niece, Cydney Adams, who she affectionately called "Nanny," because of the wonderful role she played in her life; two dear friends, Robert Osborne and Rose Goodrum; along with a host of loving nephews, nieces, other family and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Mattie and Claxton Richardson; four sisters, Brunetta, Margaret, Ethel and Willie Mae; one Godson; Anthony Jr; three nephews, Hampton Jr, Anthony Sr and Michael Cooperwood; two nieces, Joyce Richardson and Danara Boutwell.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 30, 2018, 10am at Providence Memorial Chapels, 1275 Sycamore St. Funeral to follow at 11am. Interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery.
