SHIRLEY ANN HILL-BARNEY, was born in Buffalo, NY on June 27, 1954 to the late Andrew Hill and Annie Seymour. She grew up in Buffalo attending Woodlawn Elementary and Lafayette High School, where she expressed her school spirit as a cheerleader.
In 1978, Shirley was united in holy matrimony to Steven Barney. Shirley was very accomplished, and held various titles throughout her life, but no greater privilege was that of being a mother to Belinda and Kelle, and step-mother to Steven Barney Jr.
Shirley was the eldest of five sisters, and after the passing of her parents, became the nurturing caretaker of them. Following her desire to care for others, Shirley attended Canisius College, where she studied to be a Registered Nurse. Shirley later retired from Dinaire Furniture Corp., where she represented and defended the interests of her fellow employees as a union steward.
Shirley had a passion for cooking and is best known for her famous lasagna; she delighted in having big dinner parties with family and friends, encouraging all to come together in love. She especially adored playing and spending time with her "dog babies," Poppy and Krispy. One of her favorite past times was to watch old westerns, football, and classic Hollywood movies. Shirley was known for her witty sense of humor and her straightforward demeanor. Shirley was funny, energetic, and always the life of the party. She was kindhearted, considerate, and helpful to those in need.
She believed that through Christ, all things are possible. It was her abiding faith that sustained her during her illness. Shirley departed this life July 25, 2018.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Belinda Barton (Poppy) and Kelle Barney (Krispy); sisters, Kimberly, Beverly, Gertrude and Patricia Hill and a host of other loving family and friends.
Preceding Shirley in death is her stepson, Steven Barney and one sister, Frances Hill.
Family will receive friends Thursday, August 9, 2018, 12 noon at New Beginning Church of God, 265 Parkridge Ave. Funeral to follow at 1pm. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
