VIVIAN J. BRINSON was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Leon and Sara Dorsey. She attended Lumpkin High and Industrial School in Lumpkin, GA and Fort Valley State College in Fort Valley, GA. She was a substitute teacher in Lumpkin, Georgia. Vivian also worked for the Board of Education in Buffalo, NY where she retired.
Vivian gave her life to Christ at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Lumpkin, GA. In 1963, Vivian relocated to Buffalo, N.Y. where she was a pianist for several churches. Eventually being planted at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, she became the faithful and active servant we know and love. Vivian also served in various ministries including the choir and hospitality.
She was devoted to her faith, family, friends, and her community. She never met anyone she did not consider a friend. Her home at 242 Dodge St. was the community hangout spot for family, friends, and the neighborhood kids.
Vivian Jean leaves a legacy of caring and generosity. She had a passion for traveling, bowling, bingo, playing cards, watching sports, and planting flowers in her yard.
She leaves to cherish in memories her husband of 57 years, James Brinson Jr. She had four children Dennis (deceased), Mona, Larry (Paula), and Melissa, three grandchildren LaKeisha, Jillian, Larry Jr. and one great-grandson Jalil. Vivian had three sisters Kay Brown, Leona Horton (deceased), and Joan James and a host of relatives and friends.
Family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 237 E. North Street, Buffalo, New York, 14204. Funeral to follow at 12 noon.
