Derneen Sophia Purdy

DERNEEN SOPHIA PURDY, was born July 3, 1969 to the late John and Margaret Terry in Brooklyn, New York.

Derneen, affectionately called "Sophia," anchored her roots in the Lord at a young age.  After the birth of her children, Sophia and her family settled in Niagara Falls, New York.

Sophia loved to "love on" people; that was her greatest joy.  She was strong, compassionate, and down to the earth.  She was always willing to go out of her way to help others no matter the situation.  Sophia selflessly devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.

She was well-known in the community from her years of service as a manager at Wilson Farms, Teletech, and Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino, where she was gainfully employed for ten years as cage cashier.  Sophia graduated from Niagara County Community College (NCCC),

Her life was a living example of her favorite bible verse, "In this life we have three lasing qualities, faith, hope, and love.  But the greatest of these is love.  - I Corinthians 13:13

She may have been rough around the edges, but once you got to know her, she was soft and loving.

Derneen Sophia Purdy received the greatest gift of eternal rest on July 12, 2020 she was called from this earthly home into the open arms of the Creator.

Sophia leaves in cherish her memories her beloved children: Avery, Jerome, Austin, Justin, and Jasmine Purdy; cherished grandchildren; precious siblings; John, Davina, and Danyelle Terry; and a host of loving aunts,  uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Terry; brother, Sean Terry; and fiance'. Kerry James.

Family will be receiving friends 5:00 p.m. during the memorial service on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Brian K. Lewis Funeral Home, 2528 Bailey Ave., Buffalo, New York 14215.  In compliance with the public health guidelines during the Covid-19 Pandemic, visitation will be monitored to limit gathering sizes based on the most current recommendations and a mask must be worn at all times.
