Edward Quarles was born in McCormick, South Carolina on August 8th, 1943, to the late Sarah Quarles and Odell Sigler. Edward departed from this life on January 30th, 2026, after a lengthy illness.
Edward moved to Buffalo, NY with his family at the age of 14 years old. He received his formative education partly in McCormick, South Carolina, and Buffalo New York.
Ed married Joyce in August 1965, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, faith, and devotion to God. In 1967, they joyfully welcomed their beautiful babygirl, Kimberly Charisse Quarles, a blessing who deepened their bond as a family. After spending their early years together in a few starter homes as newlyweds, they eventually moved into their forever home – one that became far more than just a house. There, Edward and Joyce built a true home filled with warmth, wisdom, laughter, and enduring love, creating a strong foundation for their family and a marriage guided by faith. They shared a love that lasted a lifetime, standing side by side in sickness and in health. Their marriage was a beautiful promise kept.
Edward worked at Nick’s Wine and Spirits, Morgan Laundry, and Teledyne Industries, aka Taber Industries. During his time at Teledyne, he helped make parts for space shuttles and assisted in various projects for the company. He retired after 45 years, where he was then lovingly celebrated in 2010.
After retiring, Edward did not stop there. He further embraced his nickname “Papa” that he was affectionately called by his grand and great-grandchildren. Whether it was school or home related; he was always one call away. Influenced by his love of nature, Ed nurtured his backyard sanctuary where he loved to garden, BBQ, and sit outside for hours at a time. When he wasn’t outside, you would know to find him watching a NY Yankees or Buffalo Bills game.
Edward was a deeply loving and selfless man who showed his care through action. He was always willing to show up and lend a hand no matter the circumstance. His kindness, reliability, and generous heart left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents Sarah Quarles and Odell Sigler. His daughter Kimberly Charisse Quarles. His siblings: James “Jay” Quarles, Florie Gaston, Margie Quarles, Barbara Jean Drakeford, Mary Bruce, Virginia Gibbs, Floyd Quarles and Henrietta Smith. Stepbrother Leroy Peterson.
Edward leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife Joyce Quarles; grandchildren: Michael Coleman Jr. (Dominique), Ashleigh Charisse Coleman; great-grandchildren: Malia, Alexa, and Dalis Coleman, siblings: Catherine Grant of Brooklyn, NY, Delores Quarles of Buffalo, NY, Sister-In-Law: Betty Quarles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
