A Time to Be Born: Flora Lee Banks was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 2,1940. God blessed the late Eddie and Eunice Banks. She was the oldest of six siblings, three of whom has proceeded her in death, Eddie Jr, Ruth, and Nathan.
A Time to Take Flight: With a finger of love on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, surrounded by her three children and her husband. God called her which separated her soul from her body so that Flora Lee Harris-Anthony may rest from her labor here on earth.
A Time to Love: Flora was blessed to have a son, Alfred (Al) Scott, and twin daughters Michel Scott- Gunter and Marsha Scott-Charles. Later in life she met, and married Kenneth Anthony and they remained together until her passing. They both cherished their loving dog Destiny (Zoey).
A Time to Plant: Flora was a true example of finer womanhood. She accepted Christ as a young woman and eventually joined Calvary CME Church. A longtime active member of Calvary where she served on the Missionary Society, Trustee Board and many other auxiliaries. Most importantly, she truly believed that faith in God is the foundation for whatever endeavors she might encounter, and that we must continually express our love for one another.
She completed her early education in Louisiana. After relocating to Buffalo New York, she completed her formative learning at Bennett High School, then obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Science degree in Special Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. After twenty plus years Flora retired from the Buffalo Board of Education.Prior to working in BPS, Flora worked as a Director in the Buffalo Urban League for approximately ten years. Within this program of Education and Youth Empowerment, she worked to ensure the education of all children by helping to provide early childhood literacy, aftercare programs, and college scholarships. She provided a lot of support to at risk children in the community, who often came back year after year during the summer Flora also worked as a Director with National Coalition of 100 Black Women of Buffalo, New York - Buffalo Chapter. She was a lifelong member (twenty-five years) of Gamma Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporation. She was an active member and worked on many committees until she became ill. She was an avid gardener and received many recognitions for her landscaping skills. She also loved traveling, which included several cruises.
A Time to Rejoice: Flora leaves to cherish her loving memories, her husband Kenneth Anthony: two sisters:Marie Brooks and Lorraine Burns; a brother Anthony Burns; three children: Alfred (Al) Scott, twin daughters-Michel (James Gunter) and Marsha (Darrell Charles); one granddaughter LaChandra Washington; three great-members, as well as church family and friends.grand daughters: Ayana, Amaya and Aaryn; and a host of nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and other family She was always thinking of others by giving to several charities despite her declining health.Flora originated from the Latin word and was the Roman goddess of flowers, often associated with the coming of spring and the fertility of the land. The flower often associated with Flora was the rose, which symbolized love and beauty
