George Brown Obituary

GEORGE BROWN, son to the late Arrie Brown and the late Frank Wright, was born on May 9, 1946 in Americus, Georgia. He went to rest with the Lord on Friday, October 16, 2020.

After being raised by his grandmother, George left Americus, Georgia to join his mother in Buffalo, NY. During that first year in Buffalo, George accepted Christ at the age of nine and was baptized at Promiseland Baptist Church under the late Pastor Twilus Darius.  Growing up in the Fruitbelt Neighborhood, George attended School #37 (Future’s Academy). Upon graduation from East High School, he entered the U.S. Marine Corp with his mother’s consent at the age of seventeen. Upon leaving the Marine Corp with an honorable discharge, he attended the University of Buffalo for two years. During this time he earned the nickname “Doc” because he was considering a medical career. He also had entered the Army Reserve where he served for 22 years.  George met the love of his life, Dorothy Lucas and they were united in holy matrimony on August 29, 1981. Their merge family brought six children to this union.

George was a great philosopher of life and community activist. He worked for may years in the community serving the youth and senior citizens of many neighborhoods on the east side, through the old School 47 Human Service programs and early on the consortium of Human Services with life - long friend Norman Lewis.

In 1991 George became on Erie County Deputy Sheriff from which he retired after 30 years.  George and Dorothy loved to travel many times inside their time share. A trip to Toronto for Carrabana was a happening every year.  Quiet and laid back, George enjoyed reading, watching sports and debating politics.  He was also a great cook, having perfected this skill in the military as a top chef.

Those left to cherish his fond memory grieve his passing and celebrate his Homegoing are: his wife Pastor Dorothy Brown; daughter Kafi Brown; son Damani Brown and stepson Brian Alexander all of Buffalo, NY; stepdaughter Dr. Marie M. Dove of Orlando, FL; Godchildren: Sharnetta "Nikki" Cover, Shawn Michael Cover and Chandria (Remny) Peroz all of Buffalo, NY; thirty grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; loving aunt Erma Brown of Buffalo, NY; uncle Jessie Mitchell of Passaic, NJ; brothers-in-law: Sylvester Peterson and Daniel James of
