Iris M. Gunning

IRIS M. GUNNING was born in St. Ann, Jamaica on July 3rd, 1922.  She was blessed to her mother Alberta Turner.

Iris "Sis" Gunning believed in hard work and often fought for who and what she believed in.  She strived to make a better way of life for her family.

She met the love of her life Winston Gunning in London, England.  When the time was right she took a bold leap of Faith and made her way to America and settled on the West Side of Buffalo, NY in 1970.

Iris was a faithful member of the Linwood Church of Christ.  She also worked hard to establish herself as a strong Christian, Jamaican, Black woman, caring for her children.

She is preceded in death by her husband Winston and her two sons Leon and Lloyd.

Iris leaves to cherish her memory one son Clive Brown; three daughters; Fay (Jerry) Payne, Jacqueline (Johnathan) Miles, and Angela Gunning.  She also left behind a host of grandchildren, great-grand and great-great grandchildren for which she loved.

Her faith guided  and uplifted her.  She instilled her love for God to any and every one she met.  Her light shined bright and she will forever be in our hearts.  She will be eternally missed. "Lawd" have mercy!!!

Family will receive friends 10:00 am Monday, August 26, 2019 at Linwood Church of Christ, 2523 Main Street, Buffalo, New York 14214.  Funeral to follow at 11:00 am.

Interment St. Matthews Cemetery, W. Seneca, New York.
