CHERISHING THE MEMEORY OF

JAMES E. BURNO, JR.

James Eliza Burno, Jr., affectionately known as Bruno, was born on March 30th, 1955 at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital to Della Mae Burno and James Eliza Burno, Sr.  He entered the waiting arms of our Lord and Savior on October 13th, 2024.  James was unable to finish his education following the loss of his mother at the age of 12 however he obtained vocational training and certificates in air conditioning and refrigeration, excelling in fixing just about anything her put his mind to.  He liked to talk about entering the adult workforce at the age of 14 due to his large stature as a child, allowing him to pass for 18 years of age.  Outside of his incredible work ethic, James cherished watching the Washington Commanders football team and also developed an affinity for the Buffalo Bills after moving to Buffalo. He was known for his friendly personality and smile, love of music and dancing, singing (when he got the words right), grilling, and spending time with loved ones.  42 years ago, he began dating the love of his life, Janice Phillips-Burno, after he snuck some lunch money into her account when they were working together at a bank.  They were married in July 2002 and remained inseparable until the day the Lord called him home.

James was proceeded in death by his mother, Della Mae Burno and father, James E. Burno, Sr.; sisters, Barber J. Porter (Johnny); Savannah L. Burno; Pauthina Gilliam; Nita Wood (Ernest) and brothers, John Wiggins (Mary); Willie Wiggins (Jennie); and Mark Burno.

James leaves to cherish his memory, his adoring wife, Janice Phillips-Burno; his children Kelvin Fuller (Tiffany), Surina Johnson, Shenita Brown (DaJuan) and bonus "babies" Ronald, Laquita, Sade, Cheryl, Carlton, and Joseph; his grandchildren Kimberly, Jalina, James, Devin, Fabian, Jameer, Lamar and Faith, his 9 remaining siblings; and a host of neices, nephew, and friends who loved like family.

YOUR SMILE

Though your smile is gone for now,

And your hand we cannot touch,

Still we have so many memories

Of the one we loved so much.

Your memory is our keepsake,

With which we will never part,

God has you in his keeping

While we hold you in our hearts.

It's sad to walk this road wihtout you,

Instead of by your side,

But to all there comes a moment

When the ways of life divide.

You gave us years of happiness,

Then came the sarrow and tears,

But you left a beautiful legacy,

We will treasure throughout the years.

Love,

You friends and family
