Jeraldine "Jay" Ridgeway was born on January 17, 1949 to the late Hile and Lela Houston. At a young age, the family moved to Buffalo, NY, along with her seven other siblings. She attended School #17 and East High School. In 1966, she welcomed her eldest son Derek D. Houston, from a prior relationship with Clarence Merriweather. In 1974, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Charles Edward Ridgeway Sr. (a.k.a. Sonny or Bucky). From this union two sons were born: Charles Edward Jr. and Maurice Terrail Ridgeway.
Jeraldine worked at McAuley Residence as a CNA for over 30 years, receiving many awards and accolades. She loved taking care of her residence, going all out buying them cologne, clothing and other items out of her own pocket.
Jeraldine loved life and life loved her as well. She was outgoing, outspoken and as she would say, "she was sunny as all outdoors." She had a genuine love for people. She was very charitable, she would give you her last. She loved cooking and shopping but most importantly she loved helping people.
On February 21, 2025, the Lord called Jeraldine home. She's preceded in death by her parents: Hile and Lela Houston; her grandmother Thelma Jones; husband Charles Ridgeway Sr.; grandson Charles Ridgeway II, son Maurice Ridgeway; brothers and sisters: Glora Dean (Lovelle), Hilene (Andale), Harvey Lee (Lilian), Milton (Hilena) and baby brother Leslie.
Jeraldine leaves to cherish her memories, her sons: Derek (Lavonda) and Charles; sisters: Vivian Hokes (Alivn Sr. deceased) and Jackie Eddy (Alan Sr.); sister-in-law Diane Ridgeway; grandkids: Latonya Robinson (Greg), Crystal, Melissa, Keesha, Brandon, Kelsey, Mona and Derek; great grandkids: Eli, Jakari and Meloni; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
