Mrs. Victoria Olivia James, a resident of Buffalo, New York, was born July 4, 1935. She departed this life on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, New York. She was preceded in death by her mother, Leontine Shields, her father, Elijah Thomas, stepfather Harry Shields, husband Coleman James of Buffalo, NY; two daughters, Cheryl Eunice James of Buffalo NY and Deborah Franchessa James Adams Mobile, Alabama.
She graduated from McIntosh High School in 1953. She went on to earn a degree from the Spaulding Business College in 1954. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church, where the former Reverend Bennett L. Smith was the pastor. She married Coleman James in 1955 and to that union she had three children, namely Debera Franchesca (James) Adams, Cheryl Eunice (Sumlin) James and Rodney Dale James.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Rodney Dale James of Buffalo, New York; a devoted grandchild; Tacara Leontine James of Buffalo, NY; and great grandchildren Liam James of Buffalo NY; Kylie Adams and Kyron Adams of Mobile, AL; Morgan Adams, Madison Holloway, Karter Holloway, and Melanie Holloway, all of Memphis, TN: one sister-in-law Annie Daniels of Mobile, AL; devoted nephews and nieces: Eliga Thomas, Frank B. James, Rosetta (Durant) James, Pamela (Moors) James, Helen (Rocker) James, Edward Thomas and Sandra (Mosley) James: devoted son-in-law Adam Bernard Sumlin of Buffalo, New York and James Wendell Adams of Mobile, AL and devoted cousins; James Tooles of Cheektowaga, NY; Clara Bush of Buffalo, NY; Rosetta Dotson of Mobile, AL; Inez Roberts Curtis, of Mcintosh, AL; Leola Roberts Flott of Mt. Vernon, AL; Voncille (Carl) Barner, Lucille Lucas, Harlan (Anthony) Humes, Eugene (Dorothy ) Roberts, Everette Lee (Julia) Roberts, Ronald (Delores) Roberts, Detroit, MI: Bernard (Deborah) Roberts, Renard (Donna) Roberts, and Alex Roberts, Detroit, Michigan; Ernestine Jackson of Mobile, AL; Helen Roberts Willis, of Montgomery, AL; Ambrose Roberts and Linda Ruth Roberts of Mobile, AL; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
