Vonnie Mae Gambrell, age 77, passed away July 19, 2021 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lee Mobley and Alethia Florine Mobley, her brother, William Frederick Mobley and her biological father, Velton Gambrell. She is survived by her two children, Giovanna Elena Gambrell and Carlos Enrique Wilburn III and brother, Donnez Lavalle Mobley, all of Buffalo, NY. Vonnie is also survived by two grandsons. Vonnie’s professional career spanned multiple areas including labor and delivery nursing at Sisters Hospital, mediation and arbitration, civil rights activism as the Vice President of Labor for the B.U.I.L.D. Organization, President and Founder of the first national chapter of the Jairus Jiri Organizaion an international charity to help the physically disabled and blind in Zimbabwe, Africa. She was a member of the Buffalo Suburban Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lancaster, NY. Vonnie was loved by her many friends and family, and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Sunday, August 8th, from 2pm-4pm at Brian K. Lewis Funeral Home, Providence Memorial Chapel, 1275 Sycamore St. The wake will be at 10am Monday August 9, 2021, followed by funeral services to begin at 11am at the Central Park United Methodist Church, 216 Beard Ave in Buffalo, NY. Internment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetary.
