Wylonia H Smith

WYLONIA H. SMITH, 81, a vivacious farmer's daughter, was one of seven children born to the late Nathan Sr and Senola Harris on February 4, 1938 in Eutaw, AL.

Wylonia, affectionately called "Cookie," attended Summerville Industrial High School. On October 23, 1959, Wylonia married Payton Smith Jr. and to this union two sons were born: Kenneth Lorenzo Smith and Wayne Edward Smith.

Better employment opportunities and a desire to be closer to family, led Cookie to relocate and settle in Buffalo, NY. While in Buffalo, she worked at Trico Plant #2 and joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church of Buffalo, NY. Cookie was a faithful member and served as an usher for the church for many years.

Cookie worked hard, enjoyed life and believed in having fun. Her biggest pleasure was spending time with family and helping them out whenever needed. She also loved to walk. Cookie had a keen sense of style; she was classy and witty with a very straight-forward personality. Cookie was known for her one-line conversations such as, "I pay the cost to be the boss," "a hard head makes for a soft behind," and "only bet on yourself because you know what you can do."

Cookie is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joe Herman Harris.

Cookie leaves to cherish her memory tow sons, Kenneth (Kim) Smith and Wayne (Taylor) Smith; four granddaughters, Kaneisha (Carl) Hunley, Kalayha Smith, Saunceray Smith and Kayden Smith; three great-grandsons, Niahjel Hunley, Cameren Hunley and Jayden Hunley; sisters, Jessie Dee Perry, Ella (James) Dancey; brothers, Nathan (Nora) Harris, Charlie (Ruby) Harris and Mabrey Harris Sr., and a host of other loving family and friends.

Family will receive friends Monday, August 5, 2019, 10am at New Cedar Grove Life Changing Church, 100 Old Maryvale Dr.,Cheektowaga, NY. Funeral to follow at 11am. Entombment held at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
