LUCILLE MAYES
On Friday, April 21, 2017, God called our beloved mother, Lucille Mayes, home and welcomed her to eternal peace. Lucille Mayes was born on September 20, 1925 to the late Rev. John W. & Callie White in Detroit, Michigan, and was 1 of 21 children.

She retired from West Seneca Developmental Center where she worked in laundry for many years. Later in life she enjoyed volunteering at St. Francis of Buffalo Nursing Home. She was an avid cook and loved to crochet and knit. She enjoyed sharing her talents with her family; she taught many how to crochet, and would often cook their favorite meals on special occasions. She was the sweetest person in the world, she never said anything bad about anyone. She also mastered the art of being able to move to various locations in a moment’s notice with the help of her daughters.

In 1947, she met and married the love of her life, the late Abraham Mayes. Together they had 11 children.

Lucille is preceded in death by one son, William Mayes; one daughter, Saundra McLendon; and son-in-law, Robert Hewins.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Marie (Howard) Brooks, Annette Mayes, Brenda Mayes, Linda (Johnnie) Moore, John (Diane) Mayes, Shirley Hewins, Bernice (Albert) Kral, Abraham (Esther Sinocchiaro) Mayes, and Evelyn (Marlyn) Moore; 31 grandchildren, Renee (Tom), Joseph, Antonio, Gretchen, Derrick, H. Corey (Jennifer), Cynthia, Octavia (Ivan), Yvonne, Antoinette (Cedric), Salina, Lenora (Dale), Belinda, Natalie, John Jr (Herby), Valarie, Jason, Anthony, Shawn, Sherelle, Tia, Sheila, Isaac, Johnny, Terrell, Catriena (Anthony), Alonzo, Markeshia, Andrea (Sarah), Shawn, and Ronald; and daughter-in-law, Judith Mayes. She also leaves a host of loving great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family will receive friends Friday, April 28, 2017, 10am at True Bethel Baptist Church, 907 E. Ferry St. Funeral to follow at 11am.
